The commercial transportation by truck is vital to our economic system, but these miles by road can be dangerous if no attention is paid to safety in the use of trucks. The truck driver is the most important link in the use of truck safety. Stay healthy, physically fit and well rested. Fatigue and inattention by the driver on the road may increase the likelihood of an accident. To stay on high alert while driving, avoid using alcohol, drugs and medicines that cause drowsiness. Know and comply with work hour requirements that apply to you. Do not do other tasks while driving, keep your eyes and mind on the road.
Safe driving techniques can also reduce truck crashes. Obey speed limits and local regulations marked roads. Always wear your seat belt. The seat belt keeps you firmly attached to the truck, without sliding along the seat and vehicle control. Drive defensively and never think you can predict the intentions of other drivers. Be aware of “blind spots” (where you can not see other vehicles) and review them carefully before you run slow, deliberate maneuvers.
